María Heras is a Spanish fine art photographer based between Paris and Madrid. Alongside her personal practice, she works as a still photographer on major international film productions, where years of observing light, atmosphere and visual storytelling continue to shape her artistic practice.
Her work explores the relationship between landscape, memory and identity, transforming everyday places and objects into spaces shaped by emotion.
Rather than borrowing cinematic aesthetics, her photographs focus on what remains when a place is emptied of action: silence, traces and emotional presence. Her photographs begin with real places and objects, but they are ultimately driven by memory and emotion rather than documentation.
Working primarily with natural light, she creates images that embrace simplicity and ambiguity, leaving space for viewers to bring their own memories and emotions to the work.
Her ongoing project, JOURNEYSCAPE, explores how places become part of our inner landscape. Through symbolic landscapes and everyday objects, the series reflects on memory, loss, belonging and personal transformation.
