Marisa is an emerging German-born lens-based artist with a research background in social sciences and mental health. Currently working in Melbourne, Australia, she explores concepts of identity in relation to place and time and more recently she is particularly interested in how social and individual identities are changing in the age of new media. Marisa sees life as a habitual subconscious performance of social roles satisfying the need for belonging and acceptance. An existence that becomes dependent on and controlled by the surrounding social environment but has some innately animalistic qualities lurking under the surface. In her work she seeks to look beyond the surface and invites questioning one’s own reality and perception of self and others. Her aim is to create physical or mental spaces in which to explore the hidden.
