Mark Golbach was born in the Fall of 1946 in Panama's Canal Zone. During his first outing his parents drove the width of the isthmus to dunk him in two oceans on the same day.
Growing up, he lived in Madison, WI, and attended Campion Jesuit High on the mighty Mississippi river.
In 1968 he graduated from St. John's University in Collegeville, MN, with a BA in painting.
Mark went on to earn an MFA from Washington University in St Louis, MO. He has lived in Madison ever since, working for the University of Wisconsin until retiring in 2010.
As an artist, Mark has traditionally focused on painting and printmaking, taking up street photography in his retirement. He is currently on the board of directors for PhotoMidwest, a volunteer-run nonprofit that organizes educational activities for photographers in the Midwest.
He has self-published 12 photography books, with more to come.
