Mascha Naumova (born 1984 in Moscow, Russia) is a visual artist, performer and video maker who lives and works in Berlin.
She graduated from Moscow State Stroganov Academy for Applied Arts in 2010.
Her work concerns themes of emotional experience, gender roles, femininity, sex, mortality and humanity’s fight against it. Mascha’s performances, influenced by theatrical plays and classical drama, are often close to mystical scenes. The artist’s work is also developed from monumental painting, emotional drift and social research.
In her recent practices, the artist works through the spectrum of emotions which is supposed to be forbidden – or at least hidden from the public's eye. The demand to have strict control over one’s emotions is one of the main imperatives that is put onto an individual by society.
