Maurice Gunning is an Irish documentary photographer and film-maker. He received the Arts and Human Rights Photography Prize from the Irish Centre of Human Rights in 2015 for his work in Romania. The international NGO, Hope and Homes for Children commissioned Gunning to create a photo book and touring exhibition in 2014 focusing on 5 Romanian families who care for their children with special needs in their homes, rather than in the state institutions. This work was exhibited at the National Library in Bucharest and in their Parliament Building, in Canada and Ireland. Gunning worked on a similar project in Belarus in 2012, in collaboration with the Irish NGO, The Burren Chernobyl Project. He continues to exhibit internationally and has worked extensively as a cinematographer and director internationally on projects for cultural and third level educational institutions, and most recently with the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International IDEA). This documentary investigated the role of gender minorities in Fiji, Malawi and Nepal. Maurice is currently an Advisory Board Member of PhotoIreland.
