Being slightly claustrophobic, I like to leave my mind wide open. This large aperture lets in a great deal of light, strengthening focus in some areas, softening it in others, often separating things from their surroundings, freeing them from previous meaning and allowing the possibility of recontextualization. By avoiding preoccupation with intent, leaving myself open to follow the clues as to what my images will be, why they matter to me, and how they will matter to the viewer, my hope is to create simple, arresting works that point to a world where nothing matters…deeply.
Although I abandoned my studies in the visual arts many years ago to pursue a dance career, I have recently revived them. I am currently working toward a BFA with a double concentration in photography and painting at Wayne State University in Detroit, MI.
