I was trained as a painter, but I seemed to like painting on or from photographs more than canvas. So I stopped painting and focused on making the images myself. I've been doing this for over 50 years. Michael Nelson holds a B.A. in Fine Art and a M.A. in Painting/Photography from Western Illinois University. He has post-graduate work at UCLA and Art Center for Design. He has taken graduate independent study classes with Garry Winogrand, Eileen Cowin and Kendra North.
