I think of myself as an art historian first and a photographer 2nd. I have however been around the block academically, media and journalism as well as law school, all of which I draw from and use in my current work, research and thinking especially where land is concerned. I am currently busy with my PhD in History of Art but work part time in curating, lecturing, writing and working with photographic collectives such as the Umhlabathi Collective which is made up of established photographers such as Andrew Tshabangu and Sabelo Mlangeni. My work is in many ways tied to understanding and exploring spaces, absences within these spaces but also presence that always feels ephemeral. Landscapes provide me with the means to do this.
