Nicola Thorne is a social documentary photographer who lives in Lyttelton Harbour, New Zealand. She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts (Photography) in 2017 and BFA (Hons) in 2018, at Ilam School of Fine Arts, University of Canterbury.
Nicola’s work has been shown in group exhibitions, “Becoming Now” at the Liffey Gallery in 2016, and “Entering the Anthropcene” at Pūmanawa Gallery, Christchurch Arts Centre in 2017.
Her previous documentary projects include “Edgewise”, a visual research project of retirement in Diamond Harbour, “Not Just Tea and Scones”, a study of New Zealand working rural women and “International Arrivals”, an insight into the lives of five recent immigrants to post-earthquake Christchurch.
Photographing with intention and building relationships with people, Nicola documents the historical, cultural and social dynamics of everyday life in her art practice.
