I started photography in Bosnia-Herzegovina on the 12th of June, 2011. Around 8 pm in a small town called Medjugorje, I took a picture of a woman by accident on my mobile phone.
I was sitting a little behind her, holding onto my phone with my hands perched on the top of the backrest of her bench. It was Eucharistic Adoration, and everyone was praying but me.
She was just another figure that made up a scene. Another back towards me, one more believer in a town bursting with pilgrims seeking God. Nothing to write home about.
But then I discovered the picture on my phone. I saw her face and the expression it wore, and I recognised myself in her. I've never seen myself in a stranger before; this was something new for me. I've never looked at anything the same ever since.
