I'm a local press and street photographer in Antwerp, Belgium.
I started studying photography when I was 17 and then somehow managed not to touch a camera for the next 15 years.
After several jobs that turned out to be mere postponements, I eventually became a photo editor at a newspaper in Brussels and finally a freelance press photographer in Antwerp.
In 2010, Fifty One Gallery set up the project 'City Photographer Antwerp' and I was part of its first edition. Since the city of Antwerp had nothing to do with this project, I was completely free to document my city as I saw it. Therefore I chose to work with black and white film, to make a clear difference with my daily work as a press photographer. This project resulted in a book and an exhibition at FoMu.
In recent years I have been involved in panoramic photography and started a documentary project in the Balkans.
I have won a number of awards, including for documentary work I have made abroad.
My pictures probably say more about me than I ever could paint or explain myself. For me, the best pictures are the ones that seem staged, but aren't.
