Phoebe Kiely (b. 1991, UK) is a photographic artist based in Manchester.
Post graduation Kiely was preparing relentlessly for her debut exhibition at Open Eye Gallery, Liverpool. The clear path allowed Kiely to move forward, for the most part, seamlessly. The whole process of making work for the Pieces of You exhibition had its similarities to how she would work at university, the aim of the project being parallel to the work she created for the degree show in 2015. During this show Kiely created over 200 silver gelatin prints of scenes from They Were My Landscape, which were all printed in the custom made darkroom during the show with the presence of a live feed camera allowing the public to watch her work. It was an exhibition, residency and performance combined.
Kiely had two photos selected in late Summer 2016 to be a part of British Journal of Photography, Portrait of Britain exhibition. A showcase presenting 100 photographs of people representing Britain today. It is said to be one of the largest exhibitions in the UK spanning over the UK for the entirety of September and October, 2016.
October 2016 Kiely's work was also presented in Brighton Photo Fringe as one of the shortlisted photographers for the solo show. Focusing on the project which seemed to be carrying her quite strongly over different exhibitions in different cities.
Post Open Eye, Portrait of Britain and Brighton Photo Fringe Kiely was craving a new beginning and new work. Kiely isolated herself in a new city, Glasgow, for 20 days in September, 2016. Walking each day a different route to the suburbs of the city. Experiencing the environment and the people was electrifying. The project was an experiment in the work and in character. Kiely, for the first time, combined colour and black and white film which she edited together for the final series. The work from that exploration is in the process of being published in a zine by a small publishing house, Antler Press.
Very recently Kiely has been nominated by Julian Germain in Mack Publishing First Book Award.
