About Priyanka Chharia

My work is largely centred on the predicament of women in South Asia. I am interested
in exploring feminist histories that are often obliterated or overlooked. Through long-
term community engagement, ethnographic research and collaborative storytelling, I
challenge the traditional role of the photographer as a fly on the wall. My pictures blur
the divide between the author and subject, the seer and the seen, the real and the
imaginary. In recent years, my practice has expanded to include painting, printmaking
and sculpture. Additionally, I’m interested in bookmaking as a pedagogic practice and
as a unique way to make art more accessible and abiding.
