Berlin Wall 1980
Berlin. The Berlin Wall. Today's plastic souvenirs of snow globes, fridge magnets. These images from 1980, before the wall came down, conjure a different response. I, a young woman, make my first trip there, pass barbed wire, guns, guards, passport checks. Inside, I find the electric myth of vibrancy and creativity. And I find its counterpoint, a tangible presence of silence, solitude, void.
