The Macau Greyhounds
I never expected to find any light in such a dark place as the Canidrome racetrack in Macau where close to 18,000 greyhounds had been killed over 5 decades just for being too slow, sick or injured. When the track was finally forced to shut down due to international pressure, I went to Macau to help with the surviving 532 greyhounds that had been left behind. What I witnessed there will haunt me for the rest of my life, but I will be forever deeply touched by the light of these most gentle and kind creatures, and their unconditional love, starved for affection and a kind word, yet showering me with more love than I could ever return. So willing to forgive, despite the heavy hand of abuse they had suffered their whole lives. And so resilient and ready to move on, as documented by all of the wonderful stories and photographs shared by the families who have now given them a forever home. These are some of the photos I took during my time there in November 2018.
