Some time or other during my photographic excursions through the streets of Hamburg I noticed: Everybody is eating. The public space has become a canteen. And I started to document this cultural change.
Reeperbahn is a large and busy main road right through Hamburg’s red light district St. Pauli. Tourists, residents, families, singles of all color and nations are walking or loitering alongside brothels, table dance bars, kiosks and street bars inviting for heavy whole day drinking. How would react people in this environment? For me it is a great subject to explore, especially because Hamburg is seriously considering applying St. Pauli for UNESCO world cultural heritage.
