WARRIORS OF THE SERENGETTI -
Project info

A burning hot day, the light so white, that the sky was bleached, if that is possible. Our safari truck stopped at the entry point to the Serengetti and almost immediately, I saw wavering figures running through the white space of burning light throwing up dust clouds. The figures ran fast emerging as a group of very young boys, shouting. As they got nearer I saw slight but lightly muscled figures covered in dust, their curly hair browned by the dust, big smiles, white teeth gleaming.

They stopped as they saw me standing with my camera and went silent , smiles turning to serious faces, taking up positions of a stance, resting on their sticks, young boys from 8-16. It was the season when the 16 year olds had to leave their villages for one month and go out into the wild, alone, to prove their manhood and become warriors.
