An ode to this idiosyncratic fragile plant. It looks, amidst the stony environment, for opportunities to grow. Along a construction fence it goes up into the height but it’s also possible with the help of a parked bicycle or lamppost. The plant takes what it can get, as long as it can grow. After a period of growth, the building site will be cleaned up again, this plant will go down under ‘rücksichtslos’ and there will be more stone, concrete, glass, etc. on this spot. In cities there is relatively little space to build and the amount of green space is scarce. Due to climate change the summers in the Netherlands are getting warmer, where the stony spaces in the city cause ‘heat stress’. Green in the city is a solution for this and also good for the experience. With good policy for the city it isn’t bad if green disappears somewhere. Rotterdam is a good example of this, with its catching up of greenery next to stone, concrete and glass.
