I have a deep affection for this work because it is one of my firsts.
So it reminds me of a very young woman fiddling with films, lenses and tripod, very pure and a bit clumsy.
STATEMENT:
An uphill path, a tiny forgotten church, some people waiting, a captured sound, a closing door, a musical shadow. These can be the basic ingredients to describe not only a music experience but also the life which was revolving around me. At the beginning we went uphill to reach that place, a small high mountain village (Ambria in Lombardy, Italy), totally inaccessible in winter and suddenly so crowded on a warm day through end of July. The location of the concert was a church, I thought it was a beautiful setting for a jazz live show. That was my very first time photographing music! From inside the church I could see the spectators arriving. A strange individual wearing a black mantle and a hat stood out from the crowd. The concert began. I loved the double bass playing in the motionlessness of the church, the musician was sitting right under the religious statue, I just needed a little movement of his hand in order to give some life to that scenery. Then I captured the freedom of singing, the guitar, the impetuous trombone solo. I photographed a hug in the round of applause that seemed a defining moment to me. A woman's gaze was looking relaxed... the catharsis of music!
At the end I went back to the sacristy to take some lenses I had left there. A half-closed door seemed to be a first departure from a beautiful day in my life. Going down back to the valley, almost at the town's edge, I saw a shadow standing by a gate in front of a music stand with no music sheet on it. It was the early dusk.
