Alley life of Xinchang
Xinchang is a historical water town of Shanghai, and it existed before modern Shanghai city was built. The water transportation technique and business were very advanced in ancient times therefore more and more domestic immigrations relocated to the town, the town once was one of the business centers.
In modern days, like many other historical water town of China, Xinchang's key business was being transformed to tourism. The refreshed old house, bridge and tourist are everywhere. However a very unique phenomena in Xinchang is locals still live and work in the town(in other historical water towns, locals usually moved away). So there are two cultures coexist: one is modern tourist culture and the other is traditional local culture.
I started this long term project in early 2018 to document locals' life in Xinchang.
