Bristol Bay Sockeye Season 2020 (COVID-19)
Project info

This body of work is an inside perspective of the 2020 Sockeye Salmon fishing season in Bristol Bay, Alaska. Although many things were altered due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, the industry, based in the small fishing village of Naknek, conformed and adapted to our new safety regulations with serious consideration to not only the thousands of employees who flooded the region in the months of June and July, but to the locals and natives of the communities and villages of the Bristol Bay Borough. Many thought the fishery would be shuttered, particularly due to strong petitions to Governor Dunleavy by rightfully concerned natives, the orphans of the Spanish Influenza. But the dedicated and considerate individuals who live and work in this region met these obstacles with care, camaraderie, and made the best out of what they were given for what was decidedly a memorable season like no other.
