Chinese College Students
Project info

Chinese college students represent the most energetic and youthful group in contemporary China. Most college students of this generation were born around 2000 AD, which makes them “the generation that crosses the century”. They are the generation born and grown up after China joined the World Trade Organization (WTO). The integration of China's economy with the world and its rapid development have profoundly affected the growth of this generation. In China, according to the latest official statistics for 2019, there were 30,315,262 college students in general undergraduate and junior college (excluding graduate students, adult undergraduates, and online undergraduates) in 2019.
This series of pictures "College Students" was shot from September 2019 to November 2020 in over one year and a half and more than 700 people participated in the shooting. The students shot in the photos all came from a university in Qingdao, Shandong Province, China. The photographer herself has been working and living in the university in China for many years and she photographed the faces and recorded the mental state of contemporary university students.
Only ten photos by the photographer were selected as submissions.
