Finding Meaning in the Overlooked
I walk past peeling paint, and see a man on the wall.
I approach a tree, and see two creatures kissing.
I look down, and see someone aspiring to more.
I am stunned by the raw beauty of what’s hidden in plain sight, previously overlooked and even stepped on.
My art is based on Pareidolia… discovering meaningful faces, shapes, patterns and scenes in the random or abstract. My archetypal portraits capture a likeness to people we have known, read about or seen in movies. Who hasn’t met a strong, inflexible disciplinarian? Or aspired to intimate love?
Textures, shapes, lines and colors draw me in. Accidentally-dripped paint on a crosswalk, wet asphalt on a street, or efflorescence on a porous wall are the elements that create the stories in my photographs.
My work celebrates these manmade and natural elements in their untouched, unchanged glory — just cropped, not manipulated.
Through the lenses of Pareidolia and my camera, I hope to share this gift of seeing the surprising, personified otherworld, in the everyday.
MISSION:
I hope my work sparks conversations and opportunities to discover Pareidolia, reclaim wonder, and observe the world anew.
By opening eyes and minds to seeing differently, we can suspend prejudgement and shift habitual perspectives towards a greater appreciation of commonality, the overlooked and the undervalued.
