Portraits of a young lady.
“ The only true voyage would be not to travel through a hundred differents lands with the same pair of eyes, but to see the same land through a hundred different pairs of eyes.”
-Marcel Proust –
I have been photographing my niece since the day she was born in 2005. It was not easy to take her photos when she was a child as she didn’t like to be photographed. However, everything changed after she reached puberty. Now, especially she wants me to take her photos and we have become a good team with my permanent model.
It is interesting to witness a human's change and development in time. In this sense, the series of "Portraits of a young lady" aims to photograph a girl's life periods beginning from her birth in artistic way by observing her changes in her appearance, in her interests, in her reactions.
Nevertheless, photographing the same person or the same place in a project is not easy because of the fact that one can be fell into repetition. Despite the difficulty, trying to see the subject through different eyes is a kind of challenge for me by keeping Marcel Proust's quote I wrote above in my mind all the time as a guide.
These portraits were taken in 2020 which was a strange year and they show the melancholic mood of my niece under quarantine conditions.
