'Purple is Black Blooming' is an ongoing reflection of childhood and the home, as our experiences inside these spaces have the potential to deliver the foundation for who we become.
Through 'Purple is Black Blooming', Chapman tells a deeply personal narrative both mourning and celebrating the colourful imagination of childhood innocence. The artist's uncanny projection also explores the deconstructed home and its various metaphorical offerings.
The project invites viewers to reflect on their own experiences in their childhood home(s) and to consider how these significant physical environments protect intimacy, provide refuge and keep memories.
