In 2007, Denny was commissioned by singer-songwriter Sufjan Stevens to make photographic studies to inform the creation of what Sufjan called "a symphonic and cinematic exploration of New York City's infamous Brooklyn-Queens Expressway". This work would eventually become the critically acclaimed album and film, The BQE, a multimedia tribute to a 70-year-old highway spanning 12.7 miles between New York City's boroughs of Brooklyn an Queens. Denny's explorations along with Sufjan's own graphic design soon evolved into the packaging design of the album, The BQE, which also included a 32-page book of these landscape photographs and graphic imagery.
