In July 2013, I traveled to Istanbul and created street photographs with both an iPhone and a Canon SLR. I found Istanbul to be a good balance of Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. I arrived a few weeks after the major anti-government demonstrations, but there were still on-going protests. Each day I would walk the streets in different neighborhoods, but in the evening I would head for Taksim Square where the protests were centered. I want my images to reflect the poetry of the everyday, but also contain social and political elements when encountered. I want the pictures to express the beauty, diversity, and tension of the city.
