In 2015, I noticed that more and more people, especially young girls were considering having plastic surgery in order to augment their appearance to become successful the manufactured celebrities that they idolise.
I personally would love to be a successful artist. To be a true artist however, I believe you must not be afraid to make a fool of yourself in exploring who you really are. Ultimately however you must go out into the world and find subjects that really absorb you, as without a subject that eats at you, you automatically fall into the realms of decoration. This is where I felt an understanding of what these young girls might be going through in their desire to transform themselves into their idols.
The greatest art Francis Bacon said always returns you to the vulnerability of the human situation. He thought art was an obsession and since we are human beings, our greatest obsession is with ourselves. I am trying to find out who I really am as an artist. In making my 30 minute transformations, will any of the “star quality” will rub off on me, will I become the successful artist I would so dearly love to become.
