In visible light
This ongoing project stems from the sense of isolation that I felt in moving to Sydney in 2008, on a whim, without knowing anyone who lived there. The city was huge and its tempo completely disoriented me. This was further intensified by the phenomenon of the light in this setting. Raking down its streets and reflecting off the expansive glass surfaces, it seemed to punctuate my loneliness.
After I began to use photography as a way of exploring and making sense of my place within Sydney's matrices, I found it dynamic and vibrant; a city moving with burgeoning rapidity. The light that originally made me feel exposed while walking through the city was now a tool that could be utilised to reflect my perceptions of the strangeness, beauty and struggle of everyday life.
