This series of photographs is a metaphor for my quintessential vision of humanity; infinite space, universal freedom, existing in symbiosis. They consist of images from the Hubble telescope (that I’ve had my way with) and photographs I’ve taken of different types of jellyfish. I combined these images to talk about an ideal state of being.
I began to think about imagery that would represent a healed society, co-existing and mutually dependent for its own well-being; and I recalled a recent article on jellyfish. Research shows that some types of jellyfish are actually creatures that consist of several organisms living together in “mutualistic cooperation.” I am using the jellys as a visually poetic symbol of cooperation. These photographs imagine dancing in the rhythm of the universe, symbiotically entwined.
