In the Company of Others
I photograph real-life situations as they are unfolding in the moment. I am not trying to show polished, consciously arranged images. The photographs in this series are about connections and transitions. Connections between people as well as connections of people to place. Transitions from one stage of life to another. In searching for my own identity in relation to those around me, I am also in pursuit of something deeper in myself to which I hope to connect. These are moments of ordinary life, when I witness the body language of others that reminds me of something I have experienced in my past, an emotion that makes me want to preserve the moment. To hold on to it, to bring it out later and meditate on the place between what I am feeling internally with the moment I have captured in a photograph; emotions I believe most people have felt at one time or another in their lives.
