The source materials for these images are the original slides from my grandparents’ world trip in 1970. My technique involves projecting the slides onto a model and photographing the resulting image.
I am intrigued by the shadows and distortions of the projected image and the way the human form, captured, becomes almost unrecognisable. I like the graduation of tone and the way the colour slide images have become somewhat desaturated, some more than others, giving them a distinct vintage feel.
The way the image wraps around the curves of the human form intrigues me and I enjoy playing with the elongated shadows and the way figures or vehicles are stretched out and distorted. Often people think that the blurred background on the wall behind the model is a separate photo. It is all the one image and the blurred background is almost my favourite part of my images!
