Where God Lives
Project info

Gaoshan Opera, literally meaning High Mountain Opera, refers to the local ritual and performance conducted for Gods especially during the New Year of Chinese lunar calendar in the poverty-stricken mountainous area of Longnan, Gansu Province, middle of China. As the opera was listed into the National Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2008, local artists and residents re-started the performance for cultural and touristic reasons after decades of pause because of political and economic difficulties. This is a series of portraits of villagers concerned with the Gaoshan Opera.
