Hamburg Train Portraits
Project info

I rode the trains of Hamburg, Germany and in an attempt to photograph my fellow passengers with a different approach, I brought my old Rolleiflex and sat opposite my subjects. They were totally aware of my camera. The only interaction we had was me, staring at the viewfinder and them trying to figure out what  I was doing. Communication was impossible due to our language barrier.

All these portraits are unposed and they display a range of pure emotions as they try to communicate with me, they vary from a kind smile, to an upset glare, to someone trying to defend their personal space and others inviting me into it.
