The Great American Highway, the Mother Road, Route 66 is iconic on every level. She’s been bringing people from all corners of the planet to travel the nearly 2,500 miles between Chicago and Santa Monica.

Since its inception in 1926, this motorway has seen many people come and go, through good times and bad, but when the US Highway system started construction in the mid-1950s, this marked the looming demise of the awe-inspiring thoroughfare.

What you’re seeing here is just a glimpse, a 65-mile stretch surrounding Springfield, Missouri, the birthplace of Route 66. This road holds many memories for so many people, which can be seen in the decaying structures that line its path.
