This series is about Istanbul. While formally a stranger to the city, it is a very special place for me. I keep leaving and coming back over and over, drawn inside by the sounds, smells and visual complexity of its back alleys, observing the little paradoxes, joy and melancholy of its inhabitants.
The presented photographs are part of a larger body of work on the city that I have been slowly accumulating through repeated visits and stays over the last four years. My views and motivation are very subjective; I am not interested in current affairs or major events nor in documentary objectivity. I am looking for singular photographs that are both visually valid and yet remain part of my own very personal interpretation of everyday life of Istanbul and its people.
