With The Forgotten, I use double exposure techniques with film to explore street photography.
With the advent of digital, sometimes it's difficult to slow down. My technique, however, requires a second exposure before continuing. The process is slowed, forcing me to consider more closely what I'm shooting.
I see it as a refreshing look on the genre of street photography—intentional use of double exposures opens up possibilities of intensifying emotion, whether it be humor, sorrow, or anything in between.
In art, the technical should be a means to a philosophical/aesthetic ends—technical acumen aids proliferation of philosophy, not the reverse. I hope, in this way, I have used these old film techniques in a way which amplifies the way I view the world, and more specifically, the "street."
