To See A World in Your Own Backyard
These images were all made within a 2 block radius of my studio/home in the 5 months since I was diagnosed with brain cancer. Making this work and walking daily keeps me healthy in all ways.
Boots are deposited outside my door and clothing which speaks of Africa hangs on a neighboring fence ready for taking ; secret messages in plain sight left by taggers/artists’ hands reference immigrant roots in Cambodia, Mexico, Vietnam. I live in a place which offers a feast for the eyes and nourishment for the imagination. The voices on the streets talk story.
These photographs represent a minute portion of my 18 year documentation of this financially poor but vibrant immigrant neighborhood where artists, workers and nature leave their mark. Choosing a category is hard; choosing only 10 images is painful.
