I'm pretty sure that most of us have been in the state of melancholy at least once in our lives; the state of emptiness of sadness without given reasons.
This emotion strikes us, especially when you are alone and lonesome. It triggers us to look at the world from a different perspective, as a metaphor, a reflection of ourselves.
However, we don't necessarily encounter sadness or pain. We experience a stillness, a sense of calm that allows us to realize the connections between us and the world that we look at. There are those of us who find beauty and pleasure through melancholy and learn how to enjoy it.
