Fluent in visual metaphors, photography understands that an image, captured in time, goes beyond its ability to be simply representational, as it introduces possibilities for different and greater forms of storytelling. This allows photography to challenge preconceived notions. Photographs that distort the boundaries between fact and fiction can be very powerful.

This series of documentary photographs submits images, which suggest that captive animals are undergoing a “mutation”; a change brought about by the restriction of their natural behavioural patterns. By only photographing parts of zoo animals, the series conveys the sense that the animals have changed, in as much as their freedom has changed.
