Cornershops are becoming very rare in Iceland due to big chains and supermarkets. This project focuses on the disappearing culture of these stores and the warm and human spirit that charactarizes them.
In our small Icelandic neighborhoods and villages these stores are the social and cultural centers of the community. Thus they are important for the society and connection of people.
I traveled around Iceland to photograph all of the remaining cornershops. There are only about 34 left and five have disappeared since I started this project two years ago.
Pure impressions, just as life is.
