Regalos Para Los Muertos (Gifts for the Dead)
This project was inspired by a look into the mementos often left graveside by mourning friends and family members. Initially, it felt voyeuristic and shameful to document such intensely personal offerings. However, it began to morph into an internal conversation about life, death, and faith. The more I photographed, the more I wanted to know the stories behind the people buried within, and those that come to mourn. They became real persons with real lives. I also wondered about their faith and whether they are in Heaven, or have they returned to the primordial ooze of atheism. There is no shortage of beliefs on God, but I think that in our final moments, it’s only human to hope for eternity.
The entire project was shot on medium format film.
