Project info

- This series are I made is inspired by Francis Bacon -

The Great Tohoku earthquake occurred at 14:46 on 11th of March 2011.This earthquake triggered terrible tsunami waves and nuclear disaster.
It also made a serious impact on local Japanese traditions and cultures which have been preserved for so many years.
One of such a tradition is ‘KAGURA’, which is the traditional ritual preserved for long, long time.

This Kagura is a series of masked dances accompanied by drum, cymbals and flute.
Originally danced by holy officers of the Shrine to demonstrate the power of the mountain deity and bless the people.
Its enactment also commemorates events from Japanese history and celebrates one of the mountain deities worshipped throughout the country.
I would like to express my sincere respect for those who keep this valuable tradition, and also their passion and love for the great ritual.
