Dia de Los Muertos
These photographs are a special segment of my newest series project At Night, and were taken during a Dia de los Muertos celebration. As a film photographer, putting together the right combination of film and camera is a big step in my creative process. Recently, I became familiar with Kodak's Double X cinema film for 35mm still cameras, and it opened up a whole new world for me: a nighttime world. I am a trained dancer, so movement in photographs is something that appeals to me. The dancers featured here say more with their bodies about the joy of this timeless procession than I ever could with words.
Things are different at night. People act differently, and interact differently. Surroundings change. The color is leached out with the sun's absence. Using my Canon EOS, I am able to bring beautiful, often random moments out of that darkness with a flash.
