The Way It Is Now, a photo journey through the Misssissippi Delta
The Mississippi Delta is unlike any other place in the United States. From its flat fertile land more like lakes than fields during the flooding season, to its eclectic culture of people, the Delta reveals an underbelly of long standing traditions, prejudices, customs, and history. This spring, I traveled to the Delta for the first time to photograph this intriguing place, and was inspired and charmed by its people, its stories, its folklore and its socio-economic challenges. My portraits of the people, the small towns and its surrounding land weave a story and experience of the Mississippi Delta, The Way It Is Now.
