A Visual Autoethnographic Exploration of Commuting
The research conducted for this project involved my documenting visually (photographs) my regular commute from my home in Lymington (in The New Forest, Hampshire) to the school I teach at in Southampton (approx. 20 miles). The initial phase of the research involved my exploration of how to visually document my experience of each journey. I wanted to approach this research as an artist, it was important to me that that aspect my identity was not only given space, but also credible authority in the decisions that were made. As an artist I am interested in the mundane, the ordinary, in what happens most of the time (as opposed to rare but incredibly memorable experiences).
