This series is an exploration of deeply felt absence following my Fathers passing. The ghosts of his presence, the reality of his absence.
The work was influenced by Renaissance period artwork, particularly employing symbolism and light to provide narrative cues and enhance the emotional quality.
I once watched as my Father was moved to tears over a Renaissance period painting. I wished in that moment that I too, could be moved so greatly. I hadn't ever experienced that rush of emotion standing before a painting; I have felt it now. It has been the process, the production, the reflection and isolation in creating these images, where I have been moved. Where I have felt healing begin and thus, begun to accept his absence from my life.
