Trees and Seedlings
Project info

"Trees and Seedlings" are one-of-kind sculptural objects that address both the fragility and resilience of nature. They represent the cycle of life (birth, life, death, and rebirth), the memory of the forest and the promise of new growth. The work also addresses issues regarding the representation of reality through the photographic image and its implied memory of an environmental experience. Trees and Seedlings are grouped and installed leaning against the wall like planks of wood are stored and displayed for purchase in a lumberyard. The pieces are constructed from vertical popular wood planks varying in height (from seven inches to seven feet tall) with high contrast gelatin-silver transparencies of burnt trees and forests held between glass. Light moves through the transparent photographs projecting the images on the surrounding surface.
