Fatherland
Project info

Twenty-two years ago I left the country I never got to know in the arms of my mother. In my naive imagination I thought of Russia as a black and white place from old times. Before I was born, it is where life took place.

Driven by the thought to see the birth country of my parents, I travelled to Russia in 2013 for the first time. I lived with my seventy-six-year-old aunt who lives in the West-Sibirian city Yurga and travelled with her to the German villages she and my parents grew up in. This project led to my work of the Russian German Mennonites with the title »Breeda en Sestre – Brothers and Sisters«
