Raúl Varela was born in México City and grew up in the border city of Ciudad, Juárez; in 1996 he immigrated to the Bay Area, California. With a background in music, photography, and filmmaking, he has worked on documentary and photo assignments in Bolivia, Cuba, Chile, Egypt, Ireland, Japan, México, Peru, Europe, and the U.S. Raúl is an Anthropologist graduated from UC Berkeley and is pursuing a career as a photographer and filmmaker in the field of visual media in anthropology.
